The UFC Best Bet: Sige vs. Smith fight card was a pretty intriguing card to look over. After all, both men had fought previously in MMA, and Sige had also won against former heavyweight champ, Ken Shamrock. Shamrock would most likely need some help in the heavyweight division, and with his recent win over James “The Colossus” Johnson, it would be a great chance for him to move up in the division. But what could happen if he lost this fight?
Let’s start by examining how this match up will go down. Both men are known for being powerful punchers, and this match up will no doubt come to a grinding, no holds barred affair that is truly entertaining. It’s been known that when two men step into the octagon, one of them is going to want to take it straight on, and with that comes a huge amount of power. This will be a great test for the skills of Smith, who has never been known to have any problems with top-level powerhouses. He’s faced some tough competition in his career but hasn’t been able to quite get it done against the level of fighters that Sige has in the UFC.
However, things could always be worse for Smith. On paper, Sige is the better fighter, and this should be a wakeup call for Smith to seriously up his game and find out just how good he is at winning. With an MMA background in wrestling, and a few years of training with the Gracie Family, it would make sense that Sige has the edge on Smith. I believe that the problem is more along the lines of opportunity. In other words, there were a lot of chances on She’s part to get this fight.
For instance, when they were testing out some new fighters at the UFFC camp, one of them made the mistake of striking one of the trainers. When the fight finally got to the octagon, Smith immediately started to get forward with his strikes, whereas Sige stayed back and let Sige strike him. This was not a fight that Sige expected, and he was ready to snap Sige’s head off if the fight went to the ground. Needless to say, Sige won the fight by knockout. Although this was a horrible fight, it just goes to show that sometimes bad things happen to good people.
So what does this mean for Smith? The biggest thing is that he needs to find a way to improve as a fighter. If he’s going to continue being the same old guy that everybody knows, then he’s going to continue to get knocked out. People will just keep on beating him up until he decides to just quit. If Smith wants a chance to fight like the big lightweights in the UFC, then he needs to make himself better and learn how to fight like them.
To do this, he needs to get into better shape. I’m sure you’ve seen the recent reports about Jon Jones losing a ton of weight since he lost his first fight in November. Hopefully, this can help him get past his lack of physical strength and learn how to fight harder. He needs to spend more time in the gym so he can bulk up, and then get into a training program with some of the other fighters that he fought before. By doing this, he’ll have a huge advantage over his opponents, and be a force to be reckoned with when he fights in the UFC again.
