What is a Retreat?

A Retreat is a Time to Pray...
We can pray anytime and anywhere, however a Retreat Center offers a quiet place where the mystery of God can unfold in our lives in a gentle way. During the Retreat the celebration of the Eucharist is the high point of the day. There will also be other forms of common prayer and times for private reflection.

A Retreat is a Time to Discuss...
Our faith grows when we have time not only for input, such as a conference, but also the time to discuss what is presented with others. How does this material affect the way we live our lives and how we deal with others. A Retreat provides space for this interaction to happen.

A Retreat is a Time to Share a Meal...
The early church celebrated not only the "Breaking of the Bread" (their word for the Mass/Liturgy) but also had a meal together - sort of a pot luck arrangement. It was important the the community of believers shared a meal together and grew in their understanding and love for each other.

A Retreat is a Time to Relax...
In our hectic world there is a great need to understand the value of slowing down and just "being" in the presence of Our God and one another. The Retreat Center has recently gone through a major renovation making your stay here even more relaxing. We have redone the environmental control to include both heat and air conditioning. This is a geothermal system that uses the earths natural energy to make our environment pleasant. Our renovations also included a new kitchen. There are also over 100 acres of land to wander about on.

A Retreat is Nothing without You...

Retreats: Different Options

Parish Retreats
Over 75 years ago the Redemptorists were asked to provide regular retreat experiences for the People of God in the Diocese of Rochester. To respond to this request each Parish in the Diocese is assigned a weekend during the year. By checking this website and/or looking for bulletin announcements in your local parish you can find out your date.

Solo Retreats
What if there is a conflict in your schedule between the date of your parish retreat and other personal commitments. Do not worry! You can join us on any retreat weekend as a solo Retreatant. Each weekend there are usually between 3-12 people who are doing this and you can join them. The topic is the same the whole year long so you will will not miss out on anything!
